Union Public Library, which serves a diverse community of more than 60,000 residents, in two convenient locations, seeks an energetic, creative, and self-motivated candidate for the part-time Creativity Lab Coordinator/Library Associate position. With a brand new, state-of-the-art building that opened in June 2025, this is the perfect time to join our team!
This position reports to the Head of Youth Services for daily supervision, scheduling, and evaluation, and will work collaboratively with the Assistant Director on technology needs, as well as the Adult Services Department on scheduling programs for adults to meet the needs of our community. This role is responsible for developing the future of our Creativity Lab.
The successful candidate must be capable of working independently and cooperatively across departments and with local partners and organizations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Planning, developing and presenting programs for youth and adults using various equipment in our Creativity Lab;
- Assisting and instructing patrons in the Creativity Lab, providing instruction on the safe and effective use of equipment and software;
- Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment, including a Cricut, 3D printer, poster printer, sewing machines, etc., and managing inventory of equipment, materials and supplies;
- Working collaboratively with the library team on system-wide programs.
- Providing assistance at the Youth Services public desk(s).
- Staying current on emerging technologies and trends regarding makerspaces, software, tools, etc., for the library’s continuous improvement.
- Performing related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to think strategically and creatively;
- Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities;
- Proficiency with various technologies and creative tools and software;
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well within teams, as well as autonomously, and the ability to work effectively with the public, staff and administration in a busy environment;
- The ability to communicate ideas well, both orally and in writing;
- Be highly organized with good attention to detail;
- Must possess a valid NJ driver’s license and the ability to travel to offsite community outreach events, as well as our Vauxhall Branch Library as necessary.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
- Demonstrated experience in a public library, makerspace, classroom or similar educational setting.
- Prior experience in training individuals or groups in crafts, machinery, or technology.
Schedule: 28 hours per week on-site, with the ability to work days, evenings and weekends.
Salary: $22.50 per hour. Generous paid time off and paid sick time in accordance with the New Jersey Earned Sick Leave Law.
